Experts are still puzzled what cause a mile-long crack in Mexico.

A huge crack mysteriously appeared in Hermosillo's agricultural region in the Mexican state of Sonora. The said mile-long crack is about 26 feet deep and 15 feet wide.

Terra, an online newspaper reported that among the theories is a rearrangement in the underground water tables and ground movement due to an earthquake last August 10th near the Sea of Cortez between Guaymas and Baja California Sur.

"According to a group of geologists, the earh opened up by an increased ground water flow as a result of rains in recent days," said Zocalo.com

"Before the crack showed up, farmers had erected a levee to collect rainwater which developed a leak that created an underground stream," said Sky News.

The crack had been a headache to some motorists because it blocked access from Highway 126 to the coast. Good thing, the area is mostly uninhabited and the nearest town is still about 6 miles far from the crack's area.

Luckily, there were no reports of injuries and deaths. Investigators are still working to verify the real cause of the crack.
