The Mystery of La Pascualita: The Chihuahua Corpse Bride
La Pascualita is a bridal mannequin located at a store window in Chihuahua, Mexico. The mannequin has lived in the bridal gown shop for over 75 years which is strangely very long enough compared with the normal dummies stored in the usual shops.
La Pascualita of Chihuahua is not just an old mannequin that the store owners has retained for a very long time though. It also have a rather weird history behind it. Urban legend says that the dummy isn't just a dummy at all, but the well-preserved corpse of the previous owner's daughter, thus, gaining its popularity.
For many years, the weird story of La Pascualita has been intriguing lots people from all over the world, making it even more popular until it became a well-known tourist spot in Mexico. Visitors from different places were mostly amazed to how realistic La Pascualita was. They usually walk away persuaded that the corpse bride has to be real.
Based on its history, La Pascualita was first installed in the shop's window on March 25, 1930, dressed in a spring-seasonal bridal gown. It sooner caught the attention of the passersby because of its realistic hair and blushing skin tone.
Then, the time came when people started to realize that the mannequin actually looked very similar to the shop owner's deceased daughter, Pascuala Esparza. These findings soon made them conclude that the mannequin was in fact the perfectly embalmed body the dead woman. Pascuala was said to have died from a Black Widow spider bit on her exact wedding day.
Although many people believed that La Pascualita is indeed a perfectly preserved bridal corpse, it did not escape the myth busters of the Internet.
”It would be impossible to embalm someone and have their flesh be preserved that perfectly. For some reason, people tend to think that it’s easier to preserve a body than it actually is,” according to The Museum of Hoaxes. Another person said “Yeah, bodies really go bad pretty darned fast unless you take some rather heroic measures to keep them from doing so. Both Lenin and Mao have basically been rendered to a state much like rubber, and are kept under extraordinarily monitored conditions. Most of the stuff that undertakers and what all do is with the aim of making the corpse look good until burial. Anything over a couple weeks, and things start going very, very bad. A taxidermist might manage something, but it ain’t gonna be pretty.”
